A Mom-Approved List of the Best Graphic Novels for Kids - Let Me Give You Some AdviceGot a graphic novel fan in your house? There are literally thousands of options to choose from and finding the perfect book can be a bit overwhelming!

If you’ve got an early reader in your house who is a fan of graphic novels, you know it can be a bit of challenge to find titles. My older son has been reading this genre for a couple of years now and it’s been tough to find books that that meet my requirements for quality and his requests for fun. (I’m looking at you, Captain Underpants!)

As a mom (and former reading teacher), I’m looking for quality stories that are age-appropriate for my boys and sometimes that’s hard to find when you’re browsing the bookstore shelves or the library collection. Graphic novels are a hot-ticket item right now for readers and offer lots of appeal to early readers who can still use the pictures to support their decoding. However, I’ve found that quality can vary widely in this genre, especially as it becomes more popular and publishers rush to get more titles on the market.

To help you sort your way through all of the choices, here’s a list of some of our family’s favorites…all are kid and mom approved!

Choosing the Best Graphic Novels for Kids

Don’t avoid this awesome genre just because there’s some duds out there. Graphic novels offer a pathway to reading that is so helpful for lots of kiddos and many beginning readers start with these fast paced books and then move on to other types of chapter books really easily. Finding great books your kids will love can help them develop a lifelong love of reading…even if it starts with Captain Underpants!
